He is Risen! He is Risen indeed, Alleluia!!
My kids are getting to the age, especially the 6 and 4 year old, where they're able and (mostly) willing to help with chores around the house- yippee!!! The older two have even argued over who's turn it was to unload the dishwasher! Thus, I decided it was time for a chore chart. My girls go to an in-home day care once a week while I'm working, all inspiration for this project came from the chore chart she has for her kids- Thank you Ms. Erin!!
Supplies:
Picture frames
-1 large
-3 (+/-) small- I used 5x7
Paint
Sheet metal- cut to fit frame openings
Magnets
1"x 1" glass tiles
Adhesive lettering- I cut mine on the Cricut out of adhesive vinyl
I began by painting the frames the desired colors. The frame I originally thought I would use for this project ended up being too big- it was as wide as my refrigerator. Not going to work. I ended up re-purposing a magnetic memo/display frame I put together a few years ago as the "chore board", because it was just the right size. In turn I ended up using the bigger frame to replace the memo board- and one project became two -story of my life ;)!
I bought a sheet of square accent tiles at Home Depot for $5. I pulled off the colors I wanted to use, glued magnets to the backs using hot glue and wrote various chores on them with a black Sharpie.
After the frames had dried, I finished them with a quick coat of polycrylic topcoat to protect the paint from getting scratched. Next, I attached 3M Command Picture Hanging strips to the backs of each frame and in the corresponding location on the side of my fridge. I used one Command Strip across the top of each smaller frame and two- one on each end of the large frame. Finally, I secured the sheet metal in place with some hot glue on the back. Now, I was ready to make some labels.
Using my Cricut die-cutting machine, I cut labels out of adhesive vinyl one for the "Chore" board and one for each smaller frame with the kids' names. Using transfer tape, I applied the labels to the metal and ta-da! This was a quick and easy project, the part that took the most time was waiting for the paint to dry!! The kids are excited about their chore boards and hopefully this will diffuse some of the arguing over who's turn it is to empty the dishwasher....yeah right.
And just for fun, here is my new magnetic display/memo board before and after :)
